Mentoring: The Hope Project Way
All THP mentoring will lead to two ultimate goals:
- The relief of stress in the life of the mentored students
- THP mentors are not counselors, teachers, social workers, or parents. They are role models, friends, and guides who help relieve stress through providing a safe environment for students.
- The relief of stress results in a decrease in disruptive behavior and an increase in pro-social skills.
- THP mentors work with the school to provide a stable environment for learning and growth.
- A shift of focus in the student’s mind to our four guiding principles:
- Respect yourself
- Respect your peers
- Respect authority
- Reading is foundational
All THP mentoring will be group mentoring in the school setting:
- Group mentoring is a 1:4 mentor to student ratio.
- A 1:4 ratio is proven to be just as effective as a 1:1 ratio.
- A 1:4 ratio provides a controlled session where students can increase their pro-social skills.
- Mentoring sessions will happen once a week and last an hour per session.
- Mentoring sessions will be held on school property.
- THP mentoring will work with and through the schools, not against them.
