Mentoring: The Hope Project Way

All THP mentoring will lead to two ultimate goals:

  1. The relief of stress in the life of the mentored students
    1. THP mentors are not counselors, teachers, social workers, or parents.  They are role models, friends, and guides who help relieve stress through providing a safe environment for students.
    2. The relief of stress results in a decrease in disruptive behavior and an increase in pro-social skills.
    3. THP mentors work with the school to provide a stable environment for learning and growth.
  2. A shift of focus in the student’s mind to our four guiding principles:
    1. Respect yourself
    2. Respect your peers
    3. Respect authority
    4. Reading is foundational

All THP mentoring will be group mentoring in the school setting:

  1. Group mentoring is a 1:4 mentor to student ratio.
    1. A 1:4 ratio is proven to be just as effective as a 1:1 ratio.
    2. A 1:4 ratio provides a controlled session where students can increase their pro-social skills.
  2. Mentoring sessions will happen once a week and last an hour per session.
  3. Mentoring sessions will be held on school property.
    1. THP mentoring will work with and through the schools, not against them.
